Ridesharing companies have become very popular recently. Many of us just jump in the back of an uber without thinking about what would happen if the car was in a wreck. Uber drivers are only required to carry $50,000.00 in bodily injury coverage per person (and $150,000.00 per incident). What that means is – if your uber is in a wreck, and your damages are more than $50,000.00, the insurance company won’t have to pay you any more than that $50,000.00. Damages include medical bills (past and future), lost wages, and pain and suffering. What’s worse, if there are four people in the car, those four people are capped at $150,000.00 in total coverage. You may have to battle with your friends to split the coverage available to you after the Uber driver causes a wreck. Lyft carries the same $50,000.00 per-person limits, but the total coverage is capped at $100,000.00.
